Have you been feeling like the your enemy, Satan, has been shooting fiery darts at you lately? What do you do, when he shoots fiery darts at you? Do you surrender? Do you run and hide?
Here is some good advice from the apostle Paul:
“. . . Hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.”
Ephesians 6:16
The apostle Paul uses the imagery of a Roman soldier and his shield to help us see what we must do. The "shield" used by the Roman soldiers was wide and long, completely covering the Roman soldier. Like a Roman shield, Paul is telling us that God has given us enough faith to make certain we are completely covered for every situation!
Roman soldiers kept their shields out in front of them to defend them from attacks from their enemies. Like a shield, our faith is supposed to be out in front where it can completely cover us and protects us from harm, as we march forward to take new ground for the Kingdom of God!
Listen, don’t let your enemy hit you over and over again with fear, doubt, and worry. Pick up your faith in God and let your enemy know who you belong too. Your identity is found in Christ. You are God’s child. You belong to Him. Your God is greater than any circumstance you face.
Roman soldiers would also gather to form a wall with their shields on all sides of their bodies even their heads. They became a human tank as they shielded up together!
Listen you are not standing alone to fight the devil. I have picked up my shield and I am standing with you and so is the rest of the body of Christ.
