Pastor Lee and Gidget AtheyThe Grinder: Steve Kerr

Not along ago, ESPN released a 10 part series on Michael Jordan called, “The Last Dance.” Michael sure was talented. There was no doubt about that. The Grinder

But one of my favorite stories inside the documentary was of Steve Kerr. Steve was what we would call, “A Grinder.” He was not the most talented or most athletic man on the court. He had to work at everything he got. Steve would show up every day, eager to work, and he would place team before himself! He was a role player.

He just felt that if he kept working hard it would eventually pay off. He worked as hard as he could knowing, he would only get about five shots a game. When his time came, he had to be ready and he was.

Paul tells us in I Corinthians 15:58

“Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor is not in vain.”

I believe the Kingdom of God is made up of many grinders. The kingdom of God is made of ordinary people who God uses to do extraordinary things. They are people who remain faithful and committed to the cause of Christ.

They are the Sunday School teacher who teaches in the trenches year after year. They are the person who serves in the soup kitchen day after day. They are the ones who lead the small group time after time. You get the idea.

They are not the most charismatic, most gifted or most talented but they are just committed to doing the will of God.

Listen, God knows and comes alongside those who are committed to doing His will. “Grinding for God” is never in vain. We must not allow ourselves to get discouraged or give up.

God wants us to keep showing up ready to work and serving others. He will give us the strength to persevere when times get tough. It’s a new day – KEEP GRINDING!

Let us pray!

Blessings,
