Pastor Lee and Gidget AtheyJust Mercy

The other night my wife and I watched a movie called “Just Mercy.” The movie is about a lawyer name Bryan Stevenson. Just Mercy

After graduating from Harvard, Bryan Stevenson heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned. One of his first cases is that of Walter McMillian, who was given the death sentence in 1987 for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite overwhelming evidence proving his innocence.

After facing all kinds of opposition including racism, the case is finally overturned and Walter McMillian is a free man.

As the apostle Paul was traveling through Asia he faced some incredible hardships. At one point, he felt like he was going to die and there was nothing he could do. All Paul could do was trust God. Have you ever been there?

2 Corinthians 1:8-11

8 We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. 9 In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. 10 And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. 11 And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.

I remember the day my doctor told me I had heart failure. He could not guarantee I would be alive next week, next month or next year. That felt like a death sentence.

All I could do was trust God. And with so many people praying, God gave me a miracle and increased my ejection fraction number to normal which the doctor had told me would never go back up. I know I am here today because so many prayed for me.

As we begin to venture out and go back to our daily routines, we must remember that this Covid-19 is not our death sentence because we know the one who raises the dead. We can trust Him completely.

Let us pray!

Blessings,

Pastor Lee & Gidget Athey
